Frequently asked questions
What does COSMIC do?
COSMIC analyses a recording for signs of AI generation. It reports a probability and the checks behind it: the COSMIC model, Content Credentials, watermarks and file metadata. It does not judge music for being AI-made; it tells you what it finds so you can decide.
Is a result proof?
No. A result is evidence. “AI-generated audio detected” means a credential, a watermark or the model found a signal. “No supported signal detected” means every requested check ran and found nothing, which is not proof that a person made the recording. “Inconclusive” means a required check was unavailable, or only editable metadata points to AI.
How accurate is it?
At a cutoff that wrongly flags 1% of human music, COSMIC caught 94.0% of AI tracks in our tests. False flags on human music were between 0.8% and 1.5% per artist on the collections measured. For a generator released after training, the average drops to about 75%. Full tables and methods are on the Results page.
How does it handle recordings that mix human-made and AI-generated material?
COSMIC is less reliable on recordings that mix human-made and AI-generated material, and a result may not reflect the AI part.
What can I upload or link?
MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC/M4A, OGG and Opus files. Compressed files can be up to 25 MB and lossless files up to 90 MB. A recording needs at least 20 seconds of audio; below that COSMIC gives no AI verdict. You can also paste a Spotify, YouTube, SoundCloud or TikTok link, or a direct link to an audio file.
Spotify, YouTube and SoundCloud links analyse a 30-second section of the track. That is short audio, so the result carries the false-flag rate for recordings under 60 seconds, shown on the Results page. A TikTok link analyses the sound the video uses, and a direct link analyses the whole file.
Why doesn’t a YouTube link always work?
YouTube blocks some videos from being fetched by services like COSMIC. This is on YouTube’s side and cannot be fixed by COSMIC. If a YouTube link fails, upload the file instead or use a link from another service.
How long does an analysis take?
Most analyses finish in about 4 seconds once the audio has uploaded. A link adds the time it takes to fetch the audio, and the first analysis after a quiet period can take longer.
What does “Likely made with” mean?
On an AI verdict, COSMIC may show the generator the recording most resembles, with a match percentage. When the match is weak or the recording looks unlike what COSMIC was trained on, it reads “Possibly made with”. It is a guess, not a finding about who made the track. A signed credential is the only check that names a service with certainty.
What happens to my audio and my results?
Submitted and retrieved audio is deleted when the analysis ends. The result is kept for 24 hours, then deleted automatically. The Privacy Policy lists every kind of information and how long it is kept.
Does COSMIC save my music or train on it?
No. Your audio is used only to run your analysis and is deleted when it ends. It is never used to train or test COSMIC, and it is never sold, shared or published.
COSMIC keeps a fingerprint of the recording and its result for 30 days after you last checked it. A fingerprint cannot be played back or turned back into audio.
Keeping a fingerprint does not mean COSMIC can listen to or view your audio. A fingerprint is a list of numbers that describes how the sound changes over time, used only to recognise the same recording if it is checked again.
How do I save or share a result?
Under a result, Save results downloads a text file and Save image downloads a picture of the result card. Copy link copies a link to the result that works for 24 hours. The file name is not shown on a shared link or in the saved image.
Can I use COSMIC outside this website?
Yes. The API returns the same result and evidence, and COSMIC also runs inside AudioAuditor, the open-source audio analysis app by the same developer.
What does it cost?
One recording without an account and three with a free account, per rolling 30 days. Paid plans and credit packs are on the Pricing page.
What happens when I mark a result as inaccurate?
Your answer, and the optional note, is kept for 12 months to review problems and improve COSMIC. Unanswered questions are deleted after two days. Only aggregate counts remain after that.
Is the website accessible?
COSMIC aims to meet WCAG 2.2 at level AA. The Accessibility page lists what is supported, what is known to fall short and how to report a barrier.
How do I report a problem or ask something else?
